Is this one of the best restaurants in Houston? Absolutely. Is the Rubbish Apple Pie the Best Dessert in Houston? I would argue absolutely. I thought it was Thursday and was looking forward to Vietnamese Fried Chicken but I got my days mixed up. No matter, the meal was exceptional. But as in another recent review...no coffee??? At a Vietnamese restaurant??? They have a number of coffee based beverages and cocktails and NONE were available that evening. It was exceptionally disappointing. Beyond that, the service and ambience were great as per usual.

We enjoyed: - Passionfruit Frozen Margarita (maybe 2 ) - Saigon Peach Sour: Sông Cái gin, crafted with fresh peach + peach liqueur, lemon, lemongrass, egg white - Scallop & Shrimp Aguachile: cucumber, radish, jalapeño, cilantro, corn nuts, toasted sesame cracker - Mama's Eggrolls: pork, shrimp, carrot, wood ear mushroom, and fish sauce with a vinaigrette for dipping - Banh Khọt: six mini crispy cakes made with turmeric and coconut milk, topped with shrimp and scallion oil, served with lettuce and herbs for wrapping, fish sauce vinaigrette for dipping -Blistered Green Beans: wok-fried green beans with garlic, shallot, and toasted sesame - Caramelized Salmon: braised in shallot, garlic, and fish sauce, served with brussels sprouts, pickled onion, and jasmine rice - Honey Soy Butter Toast: brioche bread, brown sugar, vanilla cream, caramelized peaches Standouts for us were the Bánh Khọt, Aguachile and Passionfruit marg! Parking was easy and service was great. Loved the decor!

Finally excited to try this place out! We went for an early dinner and had to make reservations. Parking was not bad at all. When we got there, we were immediately seated. Service was very patience, as it was our first time there! The vibe of the restaurant is clean and chic. We ordered so much food, and did a family style share! For starters we ordered: Mom's Eggrolls (4/5), Saigon Street Corn (4/5), and Sticky Wings (5/5). Sticky Wings were definitely my favorite. I could have done without the eggrolls. I also should have ordered the Banh Khot.. sad I did not! We also got the following: - Wok-fried Brussels Sprouts (5/5) - Duck Duck Noodles (3/5) - Crawfish & Garlic Noodles (5/5) - Texas BBQ Brisket Fried Rice (4/5) For dessert, we ordered: Kem Xôi and Rubbish Apple Pie. Both desserts, were very surprisingly delish. I don't like Apple Pie either, and it was so good! Our friends ended up ordering Garlic Noodles and Fried Rice to go, since we loved it so much! We also ordered their drinks. I'm pretty sure I got the lychee mojito and it was good!! Pricing is decent. A little on the more expensive side, but definitely worth trying it out! Love to support Christine Ha!

We stopped in a bit late but just in time for the Houston Restaurant Week to start and man it didn't disappoint. The decor is fun and inviting. Plenty of seating and relatively fast service! The Moms eggrolls are a must have! And definitely sample their cocktail menu as everything was soo good. Will be back soon for a full meal!

Was recently in Houston for work and I made it a mission to try out The Blind Goat because I wanted to find out for myself if the restaurant headed by Christine Ha was worth the hype. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was nice , bright, and a little quirky which I liked. However, I felt like we were seated in a dark corner away of the restaurant right by the kitchen door which isn't a bad thing but it definitely took away from the experience of being able to look around at all of the decor. My group started off with some drinks such as the Guava Nice Day, Watermelon Crush, and Ca Phe Sua Da. Some minor criticisms for our drinks was that our Watermelon Crush was missing the Tajin and we didn't get much watermelon flavor. For starters, we ordered the Egg Rolls and Banh Khot. We really enjoyed the flavors of the Banh Khot but I felt like it was lacking in texture since it felt like the Banh Khots were sitting for a while and were a bit stale. For our mains, we got the Birria Tacos, Green Curry with Hanger Steak, Yellow Curry, and Texas BBQ Brisket Fried Rice. We really enjoyed both curry dishes a lot but I do have to say that the Yellow Curry dish reminded me more of a Japanese/Indian curry than a Vietnamese yellow curry - which could be a good or bad thing depending on your preferences. The Texas BBQ Brisket Fried Rice was also a sleeper because we didn't expect to enjoy it as much as we did. It was nice and smoky without feeling too greasy. To wrap things up, we ordered the famous Rubbish Apple Pie which was definitely the showstopper that evening. I do not care how full you are...you have to order this dish. Christine's Vietnamese influences fused with all that is great about apple pie is a combo you won't find anywhere else. Even though I was personally underwhelmed due to all of the hype, I still think The Blind Goat is a solid restaurant and deserves a visit. If I ever return to Houston, I will definitely be back to try some other dishes on the menu!

Have y'all visited The Blind Goat on Long Point Rd yet? It's a modern Vietnamese eatery by Christine Ha @theblindcook - MasterChef winner 2012 on FOX! I recently went to visit during their BRUNCH service on Sat & Sun and it was lit! The menu may be small, but the flavors are so big! Try items from both their Vietnamese & American brunch menus. Here's what we tried: MOM'S EGGROLLS (perfectly fried, gotta get it with the pickled veg + lettuce wrap!) SHRIMP TOAST (love the garlicky, sesame flavor) STICKY WINGS (gluten-free, and deliciously sauced) BASIL CHICKEN RICE BOWL (comfort food, mix it all uppp) DODGE THE BEEF! (my fave, Vietnamese bòné, sizzling hot steak and all the fixins) CÀ PHÊ MUÔ'I (iced salted coffee, love the sweet/salty combo) AVOCADO SUNDAE (unique combination of flavors and textures, pure bliss) The parking lot has tons of spaces and shared with many tenants on the strip. The modern space inside is neat and welcoming. Restrooms are gender neutral. Will have to check it out for dinner next time and give y'all an update!

Came here with no expectations, but wow was I blown away! Hubby took me here as a surprise for our anniversary, and it was such a cute date night:) He got a reservation, but there were plenty of seats open so it wasn't needed. The area is not that great (like a strip mall in the process of being gentrified but not quite yet lol), but there are other restaurants opening new locations in the same plaza like Hando, Slowpokes, Barnaby's. Plenty of parking in parking lot. We are Vietnamese, so we are used to our homestyle meals. I was expecting to write this place off as another overpriced, upscale Vietnamese place, but I was wrong. Everything was so tastefully done! First, the Vietnamese iced coffee (cafe sua da) frozen cocktail was so delicious, strong coffee with condensed milk, and you could barely taste the alcohol which I prefer haha. Definitely get!! We got the sticky wings and egg rolls as apps as recommended by our server. I could do without the egg rolls, they weren't crispy and the radish and daikon were extra :/ However, the sticky wings were pretty good! Definitely a more elegant version of nước mắm (fish sauce) sticky wings with a perfect aroma of garlic, chili, and lime. The Texas brisket fried rice also seemed popular, and I can see why. It was smoky like brisket and had lots of onion and a lime to top it all off, but I wish there was more brisket. But my favorite was the goi ga or Vietnamese chicken salad!! Huge portions and tasted so authentic with nước mắm, garlic, and lots of lime. It was so fresh and so creative to be served on the sesame rice cracker. I never see goi ga on a menu, and this was so delish, I can see many people enjoying this. This place deserves the hype, and I will def be back for a special occasion! So happy to see Vietnamese cuisine celebrated and done so well. Shoutout to hubby for picking the best place to celebrate us^_^

We showed up Saturday around noon, and I was eager to try the bone marrow, only to find out they were only serving the brunch menu. I felt bad sitting down and getting up again, but we explained to the manager that I was more interested in the dinner menu, and we went ahead and made a reservation for later that night. Showed up later that night (attempt #2!) and was seated promptly and the same manager welcomed us back. Our waiter, Donny, asked if we had been there before. I said no, but then corrected myself, and explained what had happened earlier that day. Just have to say, the service that followed was beyond my expectations and some of the best I've experienced. The food was good for sure (although not the best ever), and I finally got my bone marrow (yay!), but the service + experience is what bumped my review to a 5. We started with the banh khot (4/5) and sticky wings (3/5). The banh khot was good, shrimp cooked well, but the chip it was on was kind of thick/hard. I don't know if that's normal as I've never had banh khot before, but in my mind I expected something lighter/crisper. The sticky wings, although cooked well, were just ok to me. Flavor was good but it was similar to other Asian flavors I've tried. Green beans (5/5) were cooked very well and still crisp without being raw and the seasoning was enjoyable although a bit on the salty side (too much soy sauce) by the end. And then of course the bone marrow (5/5)! When my marrow came out, the manager noted that I got some anemic looking bones so they were firing another for me. So awesome that he remembered I was there for the marrow and he didn't want me to leave disappointed. The marrow was worth waiting for and I'm glad we came back for it. To wrap up the night we had the famous rubbish apple pie (5+/5) and it lived up to the hype! Yes, agree with other Yelpers - get this one!! We also tried the watermelon crush and golden turtle power. All I can say is they do not skimp on the alcohol! The watermelon crush had chunks of watermelon and it was refreshing but still too alcohol forward for me. Tables were well spaced and it didn't get excessively loud. Definitely get a reservation for dinner unless you show up earlier.

I love Christine Ha's story and coming here is a no brainer. First, the atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and vibrant, a modern upscale take on Vietnamese food. The staff is friendly and very good at explaining dishes. My friend and I started with margaritas, Mom's egg rolls, sticky wings, and the bone marrow pho. The egg rolls have a lovely crunch and the nuoc mam (fish sauce) dip is a great pairing. The sticky wings were crispy even when it had the sticky sauce coating it. The bone marrow pho was a very interesting concept, and it really amazed me how much it tasted like pho with the bean sprouts and herbs. All were great, but be aware of the bone marrow dish not being a real pho soup dish. We had the brisket fried rice and the duck duck noodles for mains. The duck was lovely, nice medium rare cook. The duck fat was just so good, really makes you realize that it's the most flavorful fat of all the meats. The brisket fried rice though was my favorite. Amazing smokey brisket flavor permeated each rice grain. Finally, you can never leave without getting the apple pie. I've had this at her old restaurant of Xin chao and it's just as good here. Really nice savory caramel sauce that goes well with a simple vanilla ice cream and a good apple pie. Can't wait to be back!

My brother was visiting Houston and wanted to try this place, so we did. This place is pricey and a little far, so it's never been on my radar to try, even though I love supporting local businesses. Of course, everyone knows about the famous Blind Chef from Master Chef, thus we naturally have higher expectations and all become a Gordon Ramsey when we try establishments such as this. The menu is limited and again, it's pricey. The portion sizes are also small for the price point. Our waitress was friendly and very patient with us. We ordered: Pork Belly Skewers - my brother liked it, but I thought it was meh. It wasn't too flavorful and it was too charred/burnt for me. I wouldn't recommend ordering this. Sticky Wings - THIS WAS THE BEST DISH ORDERED! We all loved it, and the flavor was AMAZING. It's unique, sweet, savory, addicting, and just incredible. The wings were also crispy and fried to perfection. Honestly, if I ever come back, I would probably just order two portions of this for myself. Texas BBQ Brisket Fried Rice - flavorful and tasted great. However, it also tasted extremely greasy to me. I'm not sure I would want to eat the entire thing myself. It's something I would recommend sharing. Crawfish & Garlic Noodles - flavorful, rich, and indeed very buttery like the description states. I also would not recommend eating this entirely by yourself. It tasted very heavy and fattening. Rubbish Apple Pie - based on other reviews, the description of the pie, and the fact that it was from the show, I had REALLY HIGH expectations for this dessert and was honestly looking forward to it. However, it was meh to me. It wasn't amazing or anything too special for me. It wasn't bad, it just tasted like a normal apple pie with maybe some slight ingredient variations. Overall, it was a nice experience and a good foodie adventure. However, I wouldn't want to come back because it's too expensive for the small portions. It's great for date night, though, especially if you want to try something new.
